Occidental’s 媒体艺术 & 文化 (MAC) department integrates media theory 和 production, helping you to develop critical 和 creative skills for engaging in an increasingly participatory media culture.
MAC is the only liberal arts film/media department in the country located in a major metropolitan area. Our close proximity to the 洛杉矶 media 和 creative industries means you’ll be able to take advantage of invaluable internships 和 networking 机会 as you cultivate your own work in a close-knit 和 collaborative liberal arts environment.
You’ll study 和 create a wide range of media forms; you’ll push media making beyond the screen into installation, 公共, 和 mobile spaces; 和 you’ll learn new tools for digital 学者hip, from podcasts 和 video blogs to GIS applications 和 VR.
专业 select one of two concentrations: Critical 媒体, which focuses on aspects of film 和 media history, 视觉文化, 和 digital culture, or 媒体 Production, which focuses on production across a range of evolving fictional, 实验, 和 documentary-based media forms. As a MAC student, you’ll access 洛杉矶 as a production location, an archive of film history, a repository of compelling stories 和 subjects, 和 a space for internships 和 professional development. MAC fosters graduates who are technically savvy, creatively innovative, critically questioning, 和 socially engaged on local 和 global registers. 校友 often enter straight into the entertainment industry, working on a wide array of film, 电视, 流媒体, 和 emergent media forms. Others are making their mark in independent fictional 和 documentary media, 和 many are charting career paths as media analysts, 学者, museum exhibition designers, 策展人, 和 community-engaged activists.
