The 数学 major requires all students to complete 微积分 I (数学110 or 数学114) 和 微积分 II (数学120 or 数学128). Students who have already completed 微积分1 or 微积分2 (see 放置 Information below) should proceed to courses in the fundamental sequence: 数学210: Discrete 数学, 数学212: Multivariable 微积分, 数学214:线性代数.
放置 Information
Most students who are interested in majoring in 数学 should take the 微积分 放置 评估 (ALEKS) during the summer prior to their first 一年. You do not need to take the 微积分 放置 评估 if any of the following are true:
- You received a score of 4 or 5 on either the AP 微积分 AB or BC exam;

You received an IB 微积分 HL score of 5 or above;

You have already taken a 微积分1 course at another accredited college or university.
An AP 微积分 AB score of 4 or 5, or an IB 微积分 HL score of 5 or above, fulfills the major’s 微积分1 requirement. An AP 微积分 BC score of 4 or 5 fulfills the 微积分2 requirement. Students should make sure that their official score reports are sent to the Registrar’s Office for processing.

放置 in calculus courses (数学108, 数学110, 数学114, or 数学128) is determined based on previous mathematical experience, 建议, the results of the 微积分 放置 Exam. The 微积分 放置 Exam is administered online prior to the beginning of 秋天 Semester.
Students with qualifying scores on the Advanced 放置 or IB Examination in 微积分 are most often placed in calculus courses as follows:

In addition to the calculus courses, 数学105, 数学150, 数学160, 数学210, 数学212, 数学214, 131年薪酬, 146年薪酬 may be taken by first-一年 students meeting the prerequisites.
Students with transfer credits should confer with the Department for advice on placement in an appropriate mathematics course.
*Students with IB Exam scores will be required to contact the instructor of the course for prerequisite override in order to register.
数学 课程
微积分 is a prerequisite for all mathematics courses with the exceptions of 数学105 和 most Computer Science courses. All students planning to take 微积分 must take the online 微积分 放置 Exam prior to the beginning of the 秋天 Semester unless they are exempt due to having received an Advanced 放置 exam score. (See 微积分 放置 above or contact the 数学 Department for further details.) Prerequisites for any course may be waived with permission of the instructor.
转移信用 Policies
The 数学 Department may accept online courses in transfer, both as general elective credit 和 as credit toward the major or minor.
Students who earned a score of 4 or 5 on the AP 微积分 AB examination will earn four units of credit 和 will be considered to have completed the equivalent of 数学110 微积分(1). Students who earned a score of 4 or 5 on the AP 微积分 BC examination will earn four units of credit 和 will be considered to have completed the equivalent of 数学120 微积分(2). Students who earned a score of 6 or 7 on the (higher level) IB examination or a grade of A or B on the A-level examination will earn four units of credit 和 will be considered to have completed the equivalent of both 数学110 (微积分1)和 数学120 微积分(2).
Students matriculating as frosh must take at least two of the required 200-level 数学 courses (数学210, 数学212 和 数学214) at 十大正规网赌平台 except by approval of the chair.
Students transferring from another institution may transfer the 200-level 数学 sequence (数学210, 数学212, 数学214) with approval from the department chair.
A student may apply no more than eight units of 300-level credit in transfer toward the major, except by permission of the chair.
