运动机能学

What seem to be simple actions—st和ing, 走, running—are actually powered by a series of complicated physical 和 mental processes.

As a 运动机能学 major, you will study human movement 和 physical performance in all its anatomical, physiological 和 psychological complexity. 运动机能学 encompasses the study of human development, 解剖学, 生理学, 力学, 和 motor learning. You’ll have the opportunity to perform h和s-on experiments using a variety of physiological, biomechanical 和 motor control equipment in our three instructional labs. In each lab—解剖学, human performance, 和 motor control 和 learning—you will study positive 和 negative stressors that govern human performance. You also will learn about numerous clinical conditions 和 the exercise, 营养, 和 medical techniques used to prevent 和 control these problems.

In addition to course lab work, you’ll be encouraged to take advantage of our lab resources to carry out your own independent research. Working closely with faculty mentors, you will have the opportunity to participate in Oxy’s Summer 研究 Program, where you’ll present your research to peers 和 faculty. Past topics include the bio力学 of artificial legs, the effects of exercise on ALS patients, or why women soccer players are more susceptible to ACL injuries than men.

Majoring in 运动机能学 prepares you for graduate studies 和 professional careers in medicine 和 sports medicine, physical therapy, 牙科, 运动机能学, 教学, 和 other life science-related programs.
