The practice of philosophy provides students with the skills of conceptual analysis, 逻辑推理, 批判性思维. 从实践经验中学习 can be understood as learning through reflection on doing. Within philosophy, experiential learning may take many forms, but primarily:
(a) Work with community partners or meaningful engagement with a real-world context, where student experiences in these spaces are central to, 这是必要的, 课程目标.

There is no special class associated with honors. Honors in philosophy is awarded in recognition of excellence in work done for the senior essay 和 seminar, 和 will be determined by the philosophy faculty as a whole once final versions of the senior essays have been submitted.
To be eligible for honors, a student must have at least a 3.总绩点25分,3分.专业平均绩点5分. 另外, the student will be required to enroll in the senior seminar in their senior 一年 和 complete一篇综合性的论文. 这篇论文必须获得优异的成绩, which is to be determined by the instructor of the senior seminar in consultation with members of the philosophy department. Students must earn at least a B on a paper of at least 5 pages in length written for a 300-level philosophy course. Students should familiarize themselves with the departmental requirement at the time of declaring the major. Typically, students will submit a qualifying, graded paper to the chair by May of their junior 一年.

The comprehensive requirement is met by achieving a grade of C or better in the seminar. Work judged as exceptional will result in the designation “Pass with Distinction.”
